The staff at the University of Wisconsin Student Union entrusted Thysse with their experiential (environmental) graphic design project within the cherished Memorial Union. The recently-renovated facility had to retain its almost 100-year historic charm while catering to a new generation of students. During the design process, Thysse worked with the staff to develop a materials palette that would be historically accurate. Rift-cut red oak wood, anodized bronze accents and hand-hammered and painted metal signage all worked together to create a new student and visitor experience while retaining the facility’s charm and character.
