When this client set out to transform a hallway connecting two campus buildings, they weren’t looking for décor. They wanted an experience. A lighthearted dungeon. An enchanted forest. A facility environment that could transport people into another world—sparking curiosity, wonder, and inspiration along the way. Done well, spaces like this don’t just impress once. They work every day, shaping how employees, guests, and prospective recruits experience a place. That’s why projects like this get funded—and why execution matters as much as imagination. Destrée Design Architects developed the approved concepts to support the building’s medieval fantasy theme. Their approach leveraged AI-generated …

Calendars are everywhere. Useful, familiar, and often recycled once the year ends. But they don’t have to be. “I’ve always loved a beautiful calendar,” says our designer. “More recently, I’ve found myself clipping out national park photos I’d love to visit one day. The idea that those images usually end up tossed or left unused felt like a missed opportunity—and that’s what sparked the concept for our 2026 calendar.” We set out to design something people wouldn’t just flip through and forget, but something they would use, keep, and share. We concepted a few initial pages and a loose cover …

How Thysse helped Flad Development preserve a beloved Madison landmark through immersive environmental design. Before it was home to The Tradition, a modern, upscale apartment complex just off the UW–Madison campus, the site at the corner of University Avenue held a different kind of legacy: Smoky's Club — a cherished Madison supper club with decades of history, colorful stories, and even a bit of scandal. Flad Development, the team behind The Tradition, didn’t want to erase that history. In fact, the Flad family had been regulars at Smoky's for years. The property carried personal meaning. Their vision? Incorporate the story …

For the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Madison, their centennial wasn’t a date on the calendar—it was an opportunity to let their community hold a century of compassion in their hands. The team envisioned a special keepsake that could be taken home after centennial celebrations. The vision: a coffee‑table book worthy of 100 years of work to share memories with longtime contributors and welcome those meeting the mission for the first time. St. Vinny’s Communications Manager, Katherine Higgins, knew what success looked like: a printed piece that celebrates volunteers, supporters, stores, and programs—the food pantry, free pharmacy, clothing …

How Thysse helped UW Extension bring the Wisconsin Idea to life in an off-campus space through branded environments, cohesive design, and community-focused storytelling. When the University of Wisconsin Division of Extension moved its Madison-based operations from the heart of campus to a former bank building on University Avenue, one key concern emerged: Would the new location still feel like UW? UW Extension serves all 72 counties in Wisconsin, translating university research into on-the-ground impact across six institutes—from agriculture and natural resources to youth and community development. For a team so deeply tied to statewide service and UW culture, creating a …

For nearly 70 years, Vitense Golfland has been more than a destination for golf in Madison—it’s been a local landmark, a gathering place, and a cherished piece of Wisconsin history. When Joel and Sarah Weitz set out to renovate the iconic family-owned business, they weren’t just updating the building. They were honoring generations of people and memories—infusing those stories into the very walls of this iconic recreational facility. They were bringing forward and celebrating the past in tangible ways while creating new experiences for longtime fans and first-time visitors alike. That expressive mission is where Thysse came in.

Libraries create new– and more pathways within the communities they serve. The world recognizes the inspiration, knowledge, mentorship and robust community engagement fostered by these institutions. Thysse’s role in this incredible, Oregon, WI, project was to create spaces with the power to bend new and more frequent paths to the facility. Since the grand opening in February, 2024, the Oregon Public Library has welcomed more new and returning visitors from a much wider area than ever before.
